Algae affects the taste and odor of drinking water. Algae can cause allergies and diarrhea in extreme circumstances. During the summer months Lake Dunlap will reach eutrophic and hypereutrophic levels of algae. Algae reaches hypereutrophic levels (20-48 mg/L) near the dam where our drinking water is pumped out by the Canyon Regional Water Authority. Algae becomes a health hazard when it reaches hypereutrophic levels and affects our drinking water.
