PLDA-FOLM-CULP Collaborate on GBRA Request
The PLDA Board wants our members and neighbors across Lakes Dunlap, McQueeney, and Placid to know about two requests we’ve recently brought to GBRA.
Working alongside the Boards of Friends of Lake McQueeney and Citizens United for Lake Placid, we asked GBRA to consider publishing basic, real-time information about spillway gate activity at the three dams — especially during high-water events — so residents have a reliable place to check what’s happening on the river.
Secondly (and importantly) we also renewed an offer first made in July 2025 to help GBRA and the Guadalupe County Office of Emergency Management review and refresh their Emergency Notification System (ENS) Operating Guidelines for Heavy Rain / Potential Flooding that defines when and how our River Sirens are supposed to operate since (1) the public is not fully aware of the details, and (2) after ~21 years it likely does not accurately reflects how things work today.
Our interest in these items prioritizes public safety, greater transparency around dam operations, and better information for the families who call these lakes home — an interest sharpened recently by GBRA's unintended drop of Lake Placid dam’s spillway gates, which was the second event in recent months.
As always, PLDA, FOLM, and CULP are committed to our partnerships with GBRA, and will continue to focus on the most solutions-orientated approaches to matters that best serve our members and communities.
