Lake Dunlap Water Control & Improvement District

Fellow LDWCID Members and neighbors,

Happy New Year and Welcome to 2023:

the year that we get our beloved lake back!!

So, when will we be able to use the lake?

Unfortunately, we still do not have an exact date.

Construction is scheduled to be substantially completed by the end of June.

After construction there will be:

1. Some testing and inspections, and

2. Refilling the lake.

We don’t yet know how long the testing and inspections will last.  Our technical committee has been doing an incredible amount of work with GBRA and Zachry to keep the project moving on time and on budget.  They are just now beginning to dig into the details of this schedule.

And, we don’t know how long it will take to refill the lake.  That will be very dependent upon the flowrate of the river at that time.

My best guess would be sometime after mid July and before Labor day.

Whatever the exact date is, it means it’s time to finish up any of those waterfront projects on your to-do lists.

Current estimate is that we will finish slightly over budget, but still several million beneath our $40 million Bond.  There is still a substantial amount of work to be done, and there is always a risk of last minute issues and/or change orders.  Keep your fingers crossed!

PLDA is taking the lead on this issue.  While this clearly affects every member of our WCID, the WCID Board remains completely focused on the construction and financing of the new dam.  We completely support PLDAs efforts and progress on this critical issue.  On a personal level, I can tell you I hired a great local contractor (and long time PLDA member) to cut and shred everything in front of our seawall and it turned out incredibly well – at a very affordable price.  If you need a referral, please reach out to PLDA.

Your Board will be meeting at 2pm on Tuesday 17th at the Marriot Courtyard.  Please feel free to join us.

I look forward to seeing you on the lake this year!!

Happy 2023!!

Doug Harrison
